Aluminium Sulphate
(Granular, Powder, Kibbles, Solution) Al₂(SO₄)₃
Aluminium Sulphate, alternatively spelled either Aluminium or Sulphate, is a chemical compound with the formula Al₂(SO₄)₃.
It is soluble in water and is mainly used as a flocculating agent in the purification of drinking water and wastewater treatment plants, and also in paper manufacturing.

USES OF ALUMINIUM SULPHATE
- Aluminium Sulphate is used in water purification.
- In water purification, it causes impurities to coagulate which are removed as the particulate settles to the bottom of the container or more easily filtered. This process is called coagulation or flocculation.
- When dissolved in a large amount of neutral or slightly alkaline water, aluminium sulphate produces a gelatinous precipitate of aluminium hydroxide.
- It can also be used as a mordant in dyeing and printing textiles. In dyeing and printing cloth, the gelatinous precipitate helps the dye adhere to the clothing fibers by rendering the pigment insoluble.
- It is sometimes used to reduce the pH of garden soil, as it hydrolyzes to form the aluminium hydroxide precipitate and a dilute sulfuric acid solution. An example of what changing the pH level of soil can do to plants is visible when looking at the Hydrangea Crophylla. The gardener can add aluminium sulfate to the soil to reduce the pH level which in turn will result in the flowers of the Hydrangea turning a different color.
- In construction industry it is used as waterproofing agent and accelerator in concrete.
- Other uses noted are that it is used as a foaming agent in firefighting foam used in styptic pencils. It is used in products that acts as a pain relief from stings and bites and can also be very effective as a molluscicide.

Sulphuric Acid
H₂SO₄
Sulphuric Acid is a mineral acid composed of the elements sulphur, oxygen, and hydrogen, with the molecular formula H₂SO₄. It is a highly corrosive, colourless, odourless, and viscous liquid that is miscible with water. It is a key substance in the chemical industry.
Although nearly 100% sulphuric acid solutions can be made, the subsequent loss of SO3 at the boiling point brings the concentration to 98.3% acid. The 98.3% grade is more stable in storage and is the usual form of what is described as “concentrated sulphuric acid”. Other concentrations are used for different purposes.
USES OF SULPHURIC ACID
- It has a wide range of uses in domestic, industrial and agricultural industries.
- It is important in mineral processing, oil refining, wastewater processing and most commonly used in fertilizer manufacturing.

White & Brown Hydrated Lime
(Ca(OH)2)
Calcium Hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), also referred to as Hydrated Lime or Slaked Lime, is a soft powder (white or brown) that is widely used as a raw material in the chemical, construction, and agricultural industry.
Calcitic Lime and Dolomite Lime are both made from pulverized limestone however the primary difference lies in the amount of magnesium in the brown hydrated lime (hence the brown colour).
Dolomite Lime contains large amounts of magnesium along with calcium carbonate whilst Calcitic Lime only contains calcium carbonate.
USES OF WHITE AND BROWN HYDRATED LIME
- Hydrated lime has a variety of household as well as industrial uses.
- As a basic component it plays a vital role in citric acid purification as it can be used to raise the pH of acidic soils for superior plant growth. It is thus referred to as soil “sweetening”.
- In construction the use of hydrated lime is in the soil stabilization for roads, earthen dams and building foundations.
- Since its toxicity level is low and its basic properties are favourable, it is widely used in the food industry in removing impurities in the manufacture of maple syrup, sugar cane, or other viscous forms of sugar.
- Based on customer preference, clarity and pricing considerations, either White or Brown lime can be used in the application of water-purification or in the agricultural industry.
